Cold Storage and Food Distribution Center
This two-temperature, single-stage ammonia refrigeration system for a Cold Storage and Food Distribution Center includes two refrigerated docks, a freezer, multiple coolers, and a banana ripening and staging room. The system features five screw compressors (including one swing), Stainless Steel Evaporative Condenser, twelve Evapco SSTP penthouse evaporators, and one standard inside-hung evaporator. Additional components include a glycol chiller skid and a 13-circuit glycol underfloor warming loop serving the freezer.
For enhanced efficiency, the system incorporates a gravity drain liquid transfer system, gravity drained glycol underfloor Hot Gas HX, and six air curtain doors are heated using ammonia discharge hot gas.
Food Processing Facility
This two-temperature, two-stage ammonia refrigeration system was designed and installed for a food processing facility consisting of coolers, freezers, processing areas, and spiral freezers, utilizing a combination of hygienic air handlers, penthouses, and interior evaporators to achieve precise room conditions. In total, the system serves approximately 80,000 square feet of refrigerated space.
Energy focused engineering decisions, including improved oil cooling methods, a larger condenser that allowed lower condensing temperatures, the addition of variable frequency drives, and optimized compressor sequencing, resulted in an estimated 916,440 kWh saved annually. With assistance from the Focus on Energy team, the customer secured a grant to support the capital investment required to achieve these long term energy reductions.
